One of the prime attractions for Lucas is nearby Lavon Lake, one of the largest lakes in Texas, spanning 21,400 acres with 121 miles of shoreline. Great for camping, fishing, skiing, relaxing and boating, Lavon Lake is surrounded by numerous parks. At the Lake, there are plenty of nice beaches, campgrounds, hike and bike trails and much more. If you enjoy horseback riding, Lavon Lake is home to the Trinity Trail, a 9-mile equestrian and hiking trail.
Most of Lucas is served by the Lovejoy Independent School District, but there are actually six school districts that serve the city. In addition to Lovejoy ISD, the city is served by Allen, McKinney, Plano, Princeton and Wylie Independent School Districts. Lovejoy ISD is the only district with schools situated in the Lucas city limits.
For a private school education, Lucas Christian Academy is also in the city. A private, K-12 Christian school, it operates as a University Model School. The three main components of the UMS are: a Biblical foundation with an emphasis on discipleship; a General Structure which seeks a high level of integration between home and school in the educational endeavor; and a striving for academic excellence.
